Save the Planet Software
P.O. Box 45, Pitkin, CO 81241
PROGRAM ORGANIZATION
'Save the Planet' actually consists of two
programs, STP and MORESTP, included on this
software disk. The following guide should help
you to select which program to run:
Type STP for up-to-date information on global
environmental issues, including global warming
and ozone depletion. Environmental action
resources, recycling and energy saving ideas,
voting records, and the 'Write to Washington'
word processor are also located inside STP.
Type MORESTP to access the 'Save the Planet'
bibliography of over 330 entries, the lists of
nearly 200 environmental organizations, and to
find out about 'Green BBS' networks - electronic
bulletin boards for environmentalists.
PROGRAM NAVIGATION
'Save the Planet' is menu driven, and very easy
to operate. Just select the menu item desired
using the cursor keys, then press <enter> to
make your selection. You may quit at any time
and return to the previous menu by pressing the
<esc> key OR the <spacebar> key. Pressing
the <esc> key several times will allow you to
exit the program, back to the DOS prompt.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
'Save the Planet' requires a PC compatible
machine with 512K RAM, DOS 2.0 or higher, and
a CGA, EGA, VGA, or Hercules graphics card.
EGA and VGA systems with color monitors will
display this program in color.
INSTALLING 'SAVE THE PLANET'
To install this software on your hard disk, just
follow these simple steps. You can substitute
other drive letters for the ones shown here. In
this example we are installing the software from
a program floppy disk in the A: drive, and
putting the files onto a hard disk on the C: drive.
type C: (make C: the default drive)
type MD \STP (create a new STP subdirectory)
type CD \STP (make \STP the default directory)
type COPY A:*.* C: (copy all files to hard disk)
If you always plan to run the 'Save the Planet'
software from a floppy disk drive, make a backup
working copy of your original 'Save the Planet'
diskette using the DISKCOPY command. See
your DOS manual for more information about
copying disks.
STARTING 'SAVE THE PLANET'
You can run 'Save the Planet' simply by
selecting the appropriate drive containing the
STP program, and then typing STP.
The following example shows how to run STP
when the program disk is inserted in the A drive:
(Press the <enter> key after each command.)
type A: (make A: the default drive)
type STP (start the STP program)
Any word processor files created by STP will
now be written on the floppy disk in the A: drive,
so be sure the floppy is not write protected if
you will be using STP's word processor.
The following example shows how to run STP if
you have installed the program on your C: hard
disk and placed it in a subdirectory called STP.
type C: (make C: the default drive)
type CD \STP (make \stp the default directory)
type STP (run the stp.exe program)
You may also run the STP program without
changing your default drive. For example, if you
want to run from a disk placed in the B: drive
you could simply type B:STP to start the
program. In this case, any word processor files
will be written to the existing default drive.
PRINTING FROM 'SAVE THE PLANET'
You may print out any of the text articles
displayed in the STP program by simply
pressing the F1 function key anytime while
viewing text in the text window. Text will be sent
to the printer on the LPT1 parallel port.
NEED HELP?
HELP Screens are provided, selectable from the
Primary and Write to Washington menus.
A BUILT-IN WORD PROCESSOR FOR
QUICK LETTERS TO WASHINGTON
Do you need to write a letter or two to your
Senators or Congressperson, but never seem to
have the time to do it? Have you put it off
because you aren't sure how to spell the
politician's name, or you can't find the correct
address? Maybe you are not even sure who is
the Representative for your district. Save the
Planet's built-in word processor will help you cut
your letter writing time in half, because it takes
care of all these details, and more. All you have
to do is write the body of your letter, and STP
takes care of the rest!
Letter writing with STP's "Write to Washington"
word processor is fast and easy. You enter your
name and address one time, the data is then
saved for future letters. From then on, it's a
simple 3 step process: 1. Select a politician to
write from a menu, 2. Write the body of your
letter, and 3. Print it out.
A WORD PROCESSOR FOR LETTERS
You write only the letter body. The following
parts of your letter are generated and
automatically merged with your letter body:
Your name
Your street or box number
Your city, state, and zip
Today's date
Congressperson x
Their Washington address
Dear Congressperson x:
************** letter body ***************
************** letter body ***************
************** letter body ***************

************** letter body ***************
Sincerely,

(the letter body is limited to 23 lines)
